Course Overview
Machinery-related incidents remain one of the leading causes of serious workplace injuries and fatalities. Employers who use machinery are required to ensure that it is properly managed, maintained, and supervised in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations.
This course is designed for persons who have been appointed, or may be appointed, in terms of General Machinery Regulation (GMR) 2, as well as supervisors, managers, engineers, maintenance personnel, safety practitioners, and others responsible for machinery safety and compliance.
During this course, learners will gain a practical understanding of the duties of employers and machinery supervisors under the Occupational Health and Safety Act. The course explains how machinery-related legal requirements apply in the workplace and provides guidance on identifying machinery and activities regulated by the Act and its Regulations.
Learners will explore the key compliance requirements relating to machinery supervision, including legal appointments, risk assessments, inspections, maintenance, training, record keeping, and the management of machinery-related hazards. The course also examines the responsibilities of a GMR 2 appointee and the actions required to ensure machinery is operated safely and in compliance with legal requirements.
By the end of the course, learners will have the knowledge needed to effectively support machinery safety, improve compliance, and confidently fulfil the responsibilities associated with a GMR 2 appointment.
